The Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) is the national industry trade association set up to represent the locally incorporated recording companies in Malaysia. RIM currently represents 102 such companies and businesses, all of which are involved in the production, manufacturing and distribution of local and international sound, music video and karaoke recordings. This accounts for approximately 95% of all legitimate recordings in the music market of Malaysia.

An international treaty engaging the commitment of Internet Service Providers
(ISPs) could hold one key to resolving the widespread problem of copyright
infringements or Internet piracy across borders, says a renowned UK-based
advocate dealing in Internet piracy.
PETALING JAYA: The Recording Industry Association of Malaysia
(RIM) is frustrated that 90% of all the music piracy cases that it has
brought to court over the past few years has ended in defeat.
It
said that between 2004 and last year, 181 cases were brought to court
but only about 18 cases were successfully prosecuted, resulting in
hefty fines or jail time for the music pirates concerned.
ONE of
the more high-profile sections of the black economy is the domain of
the intellectual property (IP) pirates. Part of this has to do with the
nature of the IP-based businesses.
Owners who rent premises to those who sell pirated discs face court action

SERI KEMBANGAN : The fight against copyright piracy climbed to the next level with the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) now suing landlords who rent their premises to pirated disc seller.
RIM has already taken six “stubborn” landlords to court.
Chief executive officer Tan Ngiap Foo said RIM had sued the six for damages and applied for injunctions from the High Court to ban them permanently from renting their premises to pirated disc sellers.
