The Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) is the national industry trade association set up to represent the locally incorporated recording companies in Malaysia. RIM currently represents 102 such companies and businesses, all of which are involved in the production, manufacturing and distribution of local and international sound, music video and karaoke recordings. This accounts for approximately 95% of all legitimate recordings in the music market of Malaysia.

PENANG: A bistro owner in Seberang Jaya faces a fine of up to RM20mil under the Copyright Act 1987 for loading 10,000 foreign and local songs into his karaoke set.
