The Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) is the national industry trade association set up to represent the locally incorporated recording companies in Malaysia. RIM currently represents 102 such companies and businesses, all of which are involved in the production, manufacturing and distribution of local and international sound, music video and karaoke recordings. This accounts for approximately 95% of all legitimate recordings in the music market of Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: A nightclub owner could be fined as much as RM56 million, one of the largest under copyright law, after 28,353 unlicensed copies of karaoke recordings were found at his outlet at Taman Permaisuri, Cheras, on Tuesday.
The 45-year-old man is also facing a maximum five years in prison if found guilty under Section 41(1) of the Copyright Act 1987.

PENANG: A bistro owner in Seberang Jaya faces a fine of up to RM20mil under the Copyright Act 1987 for loading 10,000 foreign and local songs into his karaoke set.
